Thank you for finding out how you can get involved and become part of the solution! Here you will find a brief overview of the ways in which you can contribute both nationally and on your own campus.
Make this an issue on your campus. Approach your student association to see what they’re doing to address the rising cost of academic materials.
Start by becoming informed. Then speak with your bookstore to see how they feel about this issue and what can be done on your campus by working together. Get engaged in the national dialogue by joining the CRAM listserv and members’ forum.
Contact your student association and express your desire to work together with them. Demonstrate that you value students as your primary consumer group by listening to their feedback and acting upon it. Join the CRAM listserv and members’ forum to become involved with the nationally.
Express your support by writing to your student association and bookstore. Enter into dialogue with instructors and students alike to provide them with your perspective. Explain the methods you use to utilize less expensive academic materials, and discuss any obstacles you might have faced. Bring this issue to the Teaching and Learning Committee in your department or faculty for discussion.
Contact your student association and bookstore. Offer to aid in establishing or continuing a campus-wide dialogue, and see if you can help implement any solutions. A letter of support from a Provost or Dean can go a long way in encouraging progress on your campus.
